another jail break.

HOW many prison breaks would it take to secure our prisons? Like in Akure in July 2013, where armed robbers let 175 criminals loose, while freeing their colleagues, last week’s incident in Kirikiri, Nigeria’s prime jail, Kirikiri would soon be history. Before Akure there have been jail breaks in Ibadan, Warri, Bauchi, Kano, Abuja (at the anti-robbery detention centre), and Port Harcourt. The reactions have always been the same – media talks, promises to address the situation, and forgetfulness until the next criminals free themselves. A jail break is at one of the highest points of criminality. Its consequences depend on the criminals involved and their motives. What all these point at is that the authorities have failed to realise the importance of securing convicts and detainees. There is still a high tendency of dismissing the schemes criminals can plot even while in jail. More importantly, the reactions after jail breaks had been to descend on the prison authorities. We are aware that prisons are at the lowest rungs for budgetary allocations. Security at our prisons is left mostly to warders who are poorly armed and easily over powered. It has happened many times. Furthermore, the extent of the alertness, the number of warders deployed to man these facilities, and the equipment at their disposal make the jail breakers’ job easier. The most recent incident is rooted in inmates’ anger at being denied their rights. Abuses of prisoners’ rights are plentiful, from miserable meals to their poor living places. Medicals are barely available. None of these would be surprising, considering how Nigerians who are not in jail live. If one listens to Abba Moro, the Minister of Interior, little, would be done. Without an investigation, Moro has given congestion as one of the reasons for the commotion that claimed lives. It is an old story. For more than 15 years of civil rule, committees, conferences, and similar conjectures have been thrown at prison congestion. They achieved nothing. Kirikiri Medium, for instance has 2,536 inmates, by the latest census. Only 98 or less than five per cent, are convicts, the remaining 2,434 are awaiting trial, a plight they share with more than 36,000 others across Nigeria. Comptroller General of Prison Zakari Ibrahim told a House of Representatives Committee that of 50,601 inmates in the various prisons, 36,934 were awaiting trial. Last June, Moro said 70 per cent of inmates were awaiting trial. The over-crowding in our prisons should be treated as emergency. It is a tasking process that would see Nigeria tackling unemployment and changing the slow gears that drive the justice system. Like earlier prison incidents, Kirikiri is a symptom, not the illness.

15 years of adulterous endurance: Anita oyakhilome.

Anita Oyakhilome, the frustrted wife of Nigeria’s most flamboyant preacher, Chris Oyakhilome has obviously passed through 15 years of adulterous endurance and what she needs is our prayers and protective respect and defense of her choices to forget all the anti-rhapsody of heartbreak she endured all these years. Fifteen (15) years of being abandoned by a preacher husband is not an easy way of life for a preacher’s wife. Fifteen (15) years of hearing that some mini skirted daughters of Jezebel have taken over your possession is not a joke. Fifteen years of a husband not staying with the wife for up to a week on a stretch, while spending time with some double breasted figure eight(ed) daughters of eve is not an easy thing to swallow. 15 years of being used as a showcase to make church members believe in Rhapsodies of Blissful Union, while dying in silence, is not a palatable experience for any woman. Fifteen years of being called Mama, Mummy, and other glorified names of Senior Pastor’s wife while some domestic harems sneer at the same Mummy behind is not a sweet experience. For goodness sake, this woman never probably had a good kiss in fifteen years and yet she is being accused of carnality for crying out loud. She was continually being led into temptation of seeking for sexual satisfaction from outside for fifteen years and she managed to escape the traps of sin. Fifteen years when their two lovely daughters would wake up and ask their mother why Dad had not cared to visit, and she would have to release a lie to stave off the frequent probing questions. Above all, fifteen years when Anita had to fake that all is well with their marriage, while she is actually dying emotionally. Every person she complained to among the pastoral cadre sided with the man, and she was left alone to bear her cross. I warned some pastor friends with Christ Embassy early 2013 that they had better settle this marriage rift between Oga and his wife before it destroys the church. The same pastors have called me to express regret that a national embarrassment has ensued. This woman has been called Jezebel by some pastors and members of the church. Some claimed she was disrespectful while others claimed she was always bitter of recent. They have tried to castigate her before members of the church who came in private to ask for the way out. She was described as unreasonable and insubordinate. Her husband, according to news reports has even followed to cast her in bad light. According to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, “Bitterness is prolonged and accumulated anger. My wife is always angry and bitter,” Going further he told his members to “Be careful of the friends you keep. My wife keeps friends who bring out the worst in her and help her see the worst in people, instead of keeping friends that will help her vision, especially as the wife of a global pastor like me.” Please, which preacher woman who has been abandoned for fifteen years will not be bitter and angry? Was Anita expected to clap and dance while some hot legs are parading around the White House? This pastor’s wife was also disclaimed by her husband who told his congregants in reaction to the divorce saga that Anita is not necessarily a Woman of God. According to Pastor Oyakhilome “Don’t act like those people. If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing”. He clarified his theory by saying that “If a man of God is married, it doesn’t automatically mean that the wife of a man of God is therefore a woman of God. That’s not the way it is in the Bible.” Pastor Chris also added that “That’s why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name? You never find that out. Who was John’s wife? Did you ever read the name? What about all the other Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible. You never find their names.” Anita Oyakhilome actually proved that she has fear of God in the manner she worded her divorce plea. She opted to use the word “inappropriate relationship with female staff members” instead of out rightly accusing her husband of adultery. According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his appropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.” Anita Oyakhilome could have said that her husband abandoned her and ran into the arms of sister A or B, or gospel singer C or D and left her roasting and murmuring in the house. Anita could have said that her husband is a hypocrite who says a thing and means another, but she veiled her grievances of years of abandonment by saying in the divorce file that “The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband’s image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience. On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis”. “The wife has tried to discuss her concerns with the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs.” Thus Anita had acted with much restraint in order to preserve the integrity of Christ Embassy and the work of evangelism, and all she got for her discretion was hate messages from many sections of church members who wanted her to sacrifice her marriage to keep them in a rhapsody of deceit. This woman, according to the testimony of many British residents whom I spoke to and claimed they attend their church, is one person who is always willing to give gifts to the needy. She is ever ready to counsel people and does not breed class. She is a patient listener who laboriously introduced many things in the church for which the glory goes to her husband. Londoners believe that she is not that demon they want to portray her as. Those who know her closely have attested to an affectionate good naturedness and stickler for details. She was said to have lived a life of cautious display of affluence and rather preferred to build people and give to the less privileged, a course that did not go down well with some of their pastors in the UK. She also frowned at promiscuity among ministers of the gospel and some randy pastors in UK did not like what they called her ‘judgmental interference’ Whatsoever thing some misguided church members want to think, Anita had lived a lie for many years. Anita was said to have became born again at believers Loveworld campus fellowship at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, while Chris was the pastor. She had probably paid her dues as a Christian and knows what it is to deceive the congregation. She cannot deceive herself and the church anymore thus she opted for divorce. Divorce, according to scripture is unbiblical, but between deceiving a congregation that already knows the truth but pretends otherwise and staying in unfulfilled marriage, which is better. It is a matter between her and her conscience. Last year, a Nigerian personality blogger by name Ese Walter was lured by her Senior Pastor in Abuja into a cozy hotel bed space in London and after two weeks of adultery, the man cleaned up, returned to Nigeria and told his congregation to shout some Hallelujah. The sin partner was arrested by the Holy Spirit and she sought a meeting with the COZA Chief to resolve the burden of guilt. She was continually shunned and described as agent of satan even by other senior pastors in the church until she turned the internet into the confessional. Ese Walter freed her conscience and probably escaped eternal damnation but the entire Christendom took the brunt of the exposure. Pope Benedict made several attempts to stop the incidences of homosexual pedophiles among priest and leaders in the Vatican. His attempts were rebuffed by a cabal of officials who resisted probe and pious change. In exasperation, the Pontiff abandoned the Papacy and triggered the change that is being forced down on the resisting cabal. Pope Benedict freed his conscience and left with clean records before his God. Anita has chosen to free herself from a life of deceit and lies. The truth had set her free. However, I still counsel her that if the misbehaving preacher husband demonstrates a verifiable change of heart, she should consider him back and so that somebody can shout some more Hallelujah. Fifteen years of adulterous endurance in the midst of charismatic rhapsody is not easy and Anita Oyakhilome sure needs all the defense and understanding she can get- Let somebody shout a better Hallelujah !

woman identifies boko haram abductor who raped her in a bank.

A woman (name withheld), aged 43, has narrated what she endured in the hands of a Boko Haram abductor before she was freed from her kidnappers. According to LEADERSHIP newspaper, the woman had gone to a bank in Maiduguri, Borno state, when she recognized a 26-year old man in the queue and raised the alarm, screaming, “He is the one, he is the one! God will punish you, you will rot in hell!” Her outburst got everyone startled, but their bewilderment was rested when the woman said she recognized him as a Boko Haram member who had abducted her and several others, adding that the man in question had “used” her like a dog, raping her over ten times. Soldiers were immediately called to the scene, following which the man reportedly confessed to being a member of the Islamist sect. He confirmed the woman’s account that he, along with other sect members had abducted several women, old and young, whom they raped on numerous occasions at the forest hide-out. Those who witnessed her outburst praised the woman for her bravery. Her case was used to unravel several others, as relatives and neighbours of other similar rape cases began to open up, although they all refused to call names. Equally narrating her ordeal, one woman from Cross River State (identity withheld) said she had moved to Maiduguri in search of work when she was abducted by members of the dreaded sect but managed to escape to near Bama. The lady, who was lying on a hospital bed, recounted how she was raped by over seven men everyday for more than two months. She said she was abducted alongside about thirty women and girls, adding that leaders of the sect usually took the virgins and young ones for themselves, leaving the older or married ones for the sect’s fighters.

Jesse Jagz leaving chocolate city affected me. "MI Abaga"

Renowned rap artiste, M.I Abaga, who announced his exit from the music industry before he dropped a new single titled King James has hinted in a recent interview with Sunrise Daily on Channels TV, why he played that kind of stunt on his fans. He stated that his brother’s withdrawal from Chocolate City had affected his career; reason he hasn’t released an album for a long time. “Chairman is a song I released last year and the next day after I released the song, a couple of changes started happening in the label. “First was my brother (Jesse Jagz) wanting to leave which I didn’t know about. We discussed it and I understood where he was going with that. But, it just sort of changed the dynamic of the label and what happens with music is that, when you are producing music and relying on people, when that changes, you might need some time to reassess and come back. ”So I was supposed to put out my album last year, but it was a good opportunity for me to reassess, just to say this is what I want to do going forward. ”Last year after putting out the chairman song , all sorts of opportunities came up and I was so busy.I was travelling, all over the place and didn’t have time to record. ”But this year, we made a conscious decision with my management that M.I is not going to do anything until this album is done,” he said.

south african athlete Oscar Pistorius should not go to jail over the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp his sentencing hearing has been told.

A correctional officer appearing for the defence said Pistorius should serve house arrest and community service. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel described the suggestion as "shockingly inappropriate". Pistorius was found guilty of the culpable homicide of Ms Steenkamp last month - but was cleared of murder. The decision was criticised by the victim's family. Pistorius faces up to 15 years in jail, although Judge Thokozile Masipa may suspend the sentence or impose a fine. She said the athlete had acted "negligently" when he shot his girlfriend through a toilet door, but had genuinely thought her to be an intruder. At the sentencing hearing, Joel Maringa, a corrections officer summoned by the defence, said Pistorius should perform community service and receive three years of house arrest rather than imprisonment. Karin Giannone looks ahead to the sentencing of Oscar Pistorius "The accused will benefit from correctional supervision," Mr Maringa said, adding that this will give him an "opportunity to restructure and modify his behaviour". "We are basically not saying that he should be destroyed because he will still be coming back into the community," he said. The court earlier heard a psychologist testify that Pistorius was a "broken man" after the killing. 'Very emotional' The Paralympic sprinter had strenuously denied murdering Ms Steenkamp after a row on Valentine's Day last year, saying he shot her by mistake. Ms Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model and law graduate, was hit three times by bullets shot through a toilet door by Pistorius at his home in the capital, Pretoria. Analysis by Andrew Harding, Africa correspondent, Pretoria There is a very real chance - backed up by precedent - that Pistorius could be given no jail time at all. The judge could argue that he is a first-time offender who has shown genuine remorse. But given his criminal misuse of a firearm, what sort of message would that send to the public? And - this is unanswerable, I suppose - would it even be in his own best interests to serve no prison time? Would the public here and abroad welcome him back into society, and what sort of stress would he find himself under? Having given Pistorius the benefit of the doubt in reaching her verdict - and taken plenty of flak for it - Judge Masipa may choose to lean the other way in sentencing.

Samklef, wizkid's former producer is not happy with wizkid #Nigeria

Monday, October 13, 2014
Super producer Samklef is not happy with Wizkid. Speaking exclusively to LIB Samklef, who produced Wizkid's hit single Tease Me and five other songs in Wizkid's first album, said the superstar singer has not only refused to work with him again, he's also going about dissing his (Samklef) talent. "I'm not happy with Wizkid. I like his music, but I don't like him as a person anymore. The reason I don't like him anymore is, why do you go about spreading other people's business? I never spread your business, never came out to say anything bad about you for four years. So why would you go to an OAP and tell the OAP that the reason why you no longer work with me is because my beat is amateur. What does that mean? Those amateur beats was what brought you to limelight, was what made you meet the same Akon who first dropped 'Don't Dull' on your voice." Samklef said. Continue I never downgraded him. I showed him love. I used to go to his house...but he never came to mine. He doesn't know my house. He hasn't even seen my son before. It means he doesn't regard me as a friend. I wanted to feature him in one of my songs but this guy kept posting me for years. That's not even why I am angry. I am angry because he's going about disrespecting my talent. Saying these things in public. It is annoying. "I'm doing fine without Wizkid. I don't want to say I regret working with him but I'm thanking God that we are all alive. But ask him, the people you are going to feature in America, if they were like you, would you meet them? "I wish him luck. I don't regret working with his talent, I only regret working with his person. His fame took him away. He forgot where he was coming from. His person is very disgusting. There's something we call the grace of God. Before Wizkid got to where he is today, somebody gave him a front line, somebody introduced him. He didn't just come from anywhere. Making music is not just about one person. Banky was there to give him the front line and others came to help out. I'm not the only one complaining, other producers are complaining. I don't want to call names but nobody is saying anything good about Wizkid and you call yourself a superstar when you keep matching other people down. What is the star about you? Is it because you are featuring other foreign artists? You are not the first to do that, others have done that before so why are you carried away? "I don't want to do anything with Wizkid anymore. Keep it yourself, keep your name. I have new friends and new family. But he can continue talking. We are listening. I don't wish him bad. He says my beat is amateur but watch out for Samklef." He said
